Shops are starting to close in Stockton town centre due to reports that the town could be targeted today.
Durham Police statement:
Police are aware of reports circulating online of potential planned disorder in Durham City this evening (Tuesday, August 6).
There will be an increased police presence throughout the day, and a dispersal order for the city centre has been in place since noon.
Section 60 and 60AA powers have also been authorised, giving officers enhanced stop and search capabilities and authority to order the removal of face coverings intended to disguise or conceal a person’s appearance.
Police will do everything in their power to identify any individuals attending the city with the intent of causing disorder, and each will be dealt with robustly.
Chief Superintendent Dave Coxon, of Durham Constabulary, said: “While we will always support and facilitate the right to peaceful protest, violent disorder from people intent on harming our communities will not be tolerated.
“Our officers are committed to protecting the communities we serve, and advice has been given to residents and local businesses to reassure them of our support.
“Our advice to anyone considering engaging in disorder is not to attend.”

Some buses in County Durham have been suspended:

Service 101 108 & 109 are unable to service Bishop Auckland and will be terminating at Toronto Lodge for the rest of today.
Police have closed off access to the buses due to the rising treat of unruly behaviour.
Apologies for the inconvenience but this situation is out of our control
Service 85 to and from Barnard Castle will terminate/start from The Aclet"

Reports from Durham City Centre suggest it is very calm there right now with not much going on. Not a heavy police presence, but officers patrolling.
