Saint Simeon, the God-Receiver

Simeon was one of the Seventy entrusted with the translation of the Old Testament from Hebrew into Greek, known as the Septuagint. Translating the prophecy: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son (Isaiah 7:14), he was confused and attempted to replace the word virgin with young woman. An angel of God appeared and restrained Simeon, declaring that the prophecy is true and correct and that Simeon would not die until he sees the Messiah born of the Virgin. Many years later, on the 40th day after the birth of Christ, the Holy Spirit guided the very elderly Simeon to the Temple in Jerusalem where he encountered the Savior and his mother, the Virgin Mary. Simeon took the infant Christ in his hands and prayed to God: Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word, for my eyes have seen Your salvation which you have prepared before the face of all peoples (Luke 2:29-31). The holy righteous elder Simeon reposed shortly thereafter that at the age of 360.
