Bob Marley baptised into Ethiopian Orthodox Church 6 months before he died

What is the relationship between Bob Marley and the Orthodox church?
Bob Marley, the legendary reggae musician, was baptized into the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in 1980, just six months before his death. He took the name Berhane Selassie, which means “The Light of the Holy Trinity” in Amharic.
Background
Marley’s conversion to Christianity was a significant departure from his earlier Rastafarian beliefs. As a Rastafarian, Marley believed that Haile Selassie, the former Emperor of Ethiopia, was the messiah and the living God. However, after Selassie’s death in 1975, Marley began to question his beliefs and eventually converted to Christianity.
Baptism
Marley was baptized by Archbishop Abuna Yesehaq, the head of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in the Western Hemisphere, on November 4, 1980. The baptism took place in New York, and Marley was given the name Berhane Selassie.
Funeral
Marley’s funeral was held on May 21, 1981, at the Ethiopian Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Kingston, Jamaica. The service was attended by hundreds of mourners, including Archbishop Abuna Yesehaq, who had baptized Marley just six months earlier.
Legacy
Marley’s conversion to Christianity and his baptism into the Ethiopian Orthodox Church have had a lasting impact on his legacy. While some Rastafarians have criticized his conversion, many others have come to see it as a testament to Marley’s spiritual journey and his desire to find a deeper connection with God.
Interesting Facts
Marley’s wife, Rita Marley, was also baptized into the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and is currently a Deaconess in that Church.
Marley’s funeral was attended by hundreds of mourners, including Archbishop Abuna Yesehaq, who had baptized him just six months earlier.
Marley’s conversion to Christianity was not widely publicized during his lifetime, and many of his fans were unaware of his new faith until after his death.
