☦️⚡️ St John of Gothia was a powerful defender of Orthodoxy, especially against the the iconoclast heresy. Later he led a revolt against the Khazar rule. When Khazars managed to return, they exiled and imprisoned him. He escaped and died several years after. His holy relics were returned home to Crimea, his tomb is near the holy mountain (Ayu-Dag).

...Just as it is impossible to drag a snake over the edge of the tail, because the scales naturally rest against the dragging ones, so it is impossible to start from the extreme parts of the soul in order to survive the invading sensuality from it, if someone does not block this evil from the first entrance. Why does the Mentor of virtue command to keep his head, calling the beginning of vice the head, in which, if it is not allowed, the rest remains inactive. For whoever is hostile to pleasure in general does not succumb to the particular applications of passion. And whoever allowed the beginning of passion into himself, he took a whole beast into himself with it.
