In the book “Unseen warfare” we read advice about what to do to stay firm in faith and not to fall.

✔️“The mind should be freed and guarded from ignorance”, it says, “which is most harmful, for it darkens the mind and prevents it from knowing the truth”.

✔️That’s why we need to exercise our mind, to make it clear and lucid, able to distinguish things , so that we could get rid of passions and attain virtues.

Saints suggest two means for acquiring such clarity of mind.
✔️1) - prayer . We ask the Holy Spirit to pour His divine light into our hearts. And He will, if we truly seek God and obey His will.
✔️2) - always to examine things, learn and explore deeply. So that we could see clearly which of them are good and which bad..

✔️And we “should judge them not as the world and the senses do, but as they are judged by right season and the Holy Spirit, or by the word of the divinely-inspired Scriptures, or that of the holy fathers and teachers of the Church”.

Matthew 6:34
Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

It is necessary to steadfastly remember that when the Gospel speaks of the forgiveness of sins and offenses, it has in mind personal sins and personal offenses. However, we usually understand and do everything the other way around. Self-assertive human pride forgives everything except for personal offenses. You can be both an atheist and a blasphemer and that is fine, only don’t touch me. You can be a thief and murderer, just leave me alone. You can be any type of scoundrel, but if you don’t do anything bad to me personally, especially if you do something pleasing to me, then you are already a good person. The opposite is also true: if the best possible person in some way, even unintentionally, wounds our pride, then there’s trouble: enmity between us is unavoidable, and he immediately becomes our mortal enemy. This is how everything is distorted. Our law is such: the one who indulges our self-assertive human pride, the one who pleases our passions is good and our best friend, but the one who speaks to us even one word of reproach, even if it contains salvific truth, immediately becomes our enemy...

When a gentle word of persuasion has no effect, when people are so steeped in evil that they do not yield to any admonishment and continue doing evil, a Christian cannot and should not take refuge in this teaching of the forgiveness of all, sit indifferently with his arms crossed, and apathetically watch as evil abuses good, as it increases and destroys people, his close ones. To indifferently watch the ruin of a close one by one who has lost his senses and become a bearer of evil is nothing other than the breaking of the commandment of love for one’s neighbor. Every type of such evil should be immediately thwarted with the most decisive measures, even including the sacrifice of oneself in an unequal struggle. The following words express particularly this idea: Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. These are words which our Church has long applied to those Christ-loving soldiers who heroically died for the salvation of their neighbors.

Matthew 7:1-2
Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

☦️🕯️Christ prayed for those that crucified Him: 'Father, count not this sin against them; they know not what they do.' Archdeacon Stephen prayed for those who stoned him so that the Lord would not judge this sin against them. And so we, if we wish to retain grace, must pray for our enemies. If you do not find pity on a sinner who will suffer in flames, then you do not carry the grace of the Holy Spirit, but rather an evil spirit; and while you yet live, you must free yourself from his clutches through repentance.🕯️☦️

Matthew 7:3-5
And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4. Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5. Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

Once elder Paisios the Athonite gave an example of a mother who asked God to grant her patience. “Her little child then comes in, and as soon as she has the table set for dinner, he pulls on the table cloth and everything spills on the floor. At such times it’s as if the child is saying to his mother: “Mama, be patient!”
All our everyday life is given to us to learn and try, to become better, closer to God.

Proverbs 17:23
A wicked man taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.

Do you wish to commune with God in your mind by receiving a perception of that delight which is not enslaved to the senses? Pursue mercy; for when something that is like unto God is found in you, then that holy beauty is depicted by Him. For the whole sum of the deeds of mercy immediately brings the soul into communion with the unity the glory of the Godhead’s splendor.

Proverbs 17:27-28
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit. 28. Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
